When our first child started preschool the hardest thing for me was how much I missed her. The second hardest thing was helping her think of what to take for Share Day. My mind would draw a blank when trying to think of what toys started with the letter L. Every once in a while we would find four or five ideas and she would choose her favorite. This is actually a great way to learn letters and words.
Talking to other moms and dads, I realized this was not just homework for us, but that they often struggled too. So I went through our two children’s dictionaries and put together a comprehensive list of things that begin with each letter. Some are geared more towards preschool and others would work better for older elementary kids.
This is a fun time to be creative! I realize you cannot bring the Moon or Jupiter to class, but maybe a diagram. Maybe you don’t have anything that starts with Y, but I’m sure you can find something Yellow. I also included some food ideas, but please be cautious of any food allergies within the classroom.
